Reports have shown that burnout affects 48% of workers globally, and in the US alone, 52% of employees are experiencing burnout. Burnout is often considered a workplace issue; however, it also touches people outside work settings, such as caregivers and parents.
Why do we need to pay attention to burnout? Burnout has impacted employees in so many organizations that, in 2019, the World Health Organization recognized it as an “occupational phenomenon.” Burnout negatively impacts both employees and organizations. Employees who experience burnout often struggle with exhaustion, negativism, and become less efficient at work, which in turn has dramatic consequences on productivity within the organization. Thus, burnout leads to lower work performance, strained team relationships, increased absenteeism, and work errors, all of which result in significant costs and low productivity. Therefore, it is crucial for organizations to address and try to prevent burnout and for employees to understand what it is.
Burnout creeps in slowly, making it difficult to spot. How do we recognize burnout? How does it start? How can we prevent it? In this session, we will answer these questions and more. Join me for a thought-provoking presentation on what burnout is and how to identify it so you can debug it early on and rewrite the code for a healthier work and personal life.
